Engaging citizens and getting results is good government
Good government is built by involving citizens in decisions and delivering results for communities. That's the approach I took during my 2004-2007 term as Ward 3 alderman and I'll continue delivering results and engaging residents if I'm elected to a second term as Ward 3 Alderman on City Council.
A progressive vision for Calgary and Ward 3
My commitment to Calgary is strong, and I'll be an aggressive advocate for progress in Ward 3. My priorities for a second term are:
Support my progressive vision for our city. It's a vision that's rooted in the many conversations I've had with Calgarians in Ward 3. Vote for me on October 18, 2010.
Accomplishments as Ward 3 Alderman 2004-2007
During my 2004-2007 term of office a lot was accomplished for Ward 3. Residents say they like my 'get-it-done' style and are encouraging me to again seek public office.
- The McKnight-Westwinds LRT station and the interchange at McKnight Blvd and 36 Street NE was expedited. Working with other aldermen, the project was brought project forward by six years.
- Roads were improved and more than 15,000 extra hours of public transit was brought to Ward 3.
- Funding for better emergency services was secured. That funding built the new fire/EMS/police station in Saddletown Circle. It officially opens on September 14, 2010.
- A library, recreation centre and offices for Saddle Ridge, Castleridge and Martindale Community Associations were planned and are now being built. I worked with community leaders to secure $80 million for the project.
- A new police headquarters was opened on McKnight Blvd (in the old Northern Telecom building).
- Affordable housing was increased, and low income bus passes were introduced .
- Parks and wetlands were protected and integrated into new communities.
